During the pandemic :
My journal as a space to b r e a t h e
More about Harriet...
My journal is my sanctuary
March 2020
Galleries shut. My little art studio closed.
Everyone keeping away from one another as Covid took hold.
My daily creative journal practice saved me.
It kept me doodling and scribbling through overwhelm, pulling me out of a mindset of a lockdown into a 'retreat' space, focusing on the possibilities of what I could change and not what I couldn't. I expanded my 20 year creativity mentoring toolkit and trained as a life and mindfulness coach, splashing colour and making dots in my book throughout a relationship break up, keeping focussed on what was important to me.
I started sharing my journal from that year with clients, helping them transform their lives through using creative mindfulness to move past their own daily stresses, and built the Creative Pause Club to find a way to live more mindfully and joyfully.
Creative Pause Club
What if. . .
You could be more playful and intuitive
Were able to relax 'on demand'
Could make decisions more clearly
MY UNIQUE 4 PART APPROACH
Pick up a pen, some colour and paper anytime you want a break, simply intentionally pick a 5 minute prompt from the digital HUB, play and unwind. Get clarity of mind back.
2. on the go
Take a walk when you feel stressed, pop your journal in your bag and choose a practice from the digital HUB to experience the world though your senses. Sit in a cafe or on a bench for moments of letting go of expectation of pressure to perform.
3. weekly LIVE sessions
Share the experience and grow together, live online Pause & Play sessions, 30 minutes a week.
Creative Self is our focus.
5. COMMUNITY group
Let’s share the journey and inspire one another! Support to build your habit, keep accountable, share ideas, tips, journal pages (coming soon!)
4. quarterly LIVE Special sessions
We will deep dive (playfully!) on a specialist topic. In September this will be a longer P & P session on COLOUR.
THE 'ON DEMAND' HUB
over 150+ prompts and growing ( as of August 2024)
A positive practice takes repetition and consistency. With the gentle approach in the membership you are supported to just start where you are, no judgement.
Starting with 5 minutes and growing from there, we help you grow your regular habit.
When you practice regularly,
the Creative Pause tools can help you build your resilience and to build greater resolve to
relax and re-set.
Imagine a stressful meeting at work leaves you feeling depleted, you reach for a creative mindfulness prompt in the Hub and take a short time out , with the meditative power of a pen in your journal.
You start to bring your attention to exploring and feel more grounded, able to think more creatively and with greater clarity.

Frequently Asked Questions
1.Do I need to be 'good' at art to join?
No. This membership uses artistic processes and ideas and the focus is on letting go of the pressure to perform or be graded or judged in any way. We focus on how the experiences make you feel, encouraging low skill high sensitivity which means the activities are very simple to begin and focus on elements like playing with line, colour in your own unique way, no corrections just tuning into your intuitive curious self.
2. I am worried about having to use my phone for this, when I want to use it less.
I understand it might appear a contradiction! This is not about getting rid of an extremely useful communication tool. It is about being specific and intentional with picking it up and accessing it.
3.What if I miss a weekly session?
Recordings ( not breakout rooms) will be shared in the HUB shortly after the sessions. I strongly encourage you to develop consistency, to commit to showing up for yourself to the sessions live or setting the time aside to do it within a day or two.
4. DO I NEED TO HAVE ACCESS TO FACEBOOK?
No, you can still benefit from community connection and access all the prompts without using Facebook.
There is (coming soon!) a community space built into the HUB.
Frequently Asked Questions continued...
5. Do I need a lot of expensive art supplies?
No. This membership offers a range of prompts using simple drawing and watercolour supplies. As a basic you will need a journal ( A5 or A6 recommended of at least 140gsm) a fineliner, pencil, (water) coloured pencils, watercolour set, brush, scissors, glue. For the first week just bring any paper, pens, pencils, paint that you have! Here is a link for example starter items (affiliate)
6. why is this a membership not a course?
This experience is designed to help you grow and maintain a healthy habit to help you manage the mental load of daily life and live a more relaxed, joyful life. With a community to help cheer you on and build momentum.
Content of the prompts will be shaped as we go, using member feedback.
A great opportunity to co-create the creative mindfulness membership
YOU need!
7. is this like art therapy?
No. There are plenty of studies that tell you how great regularly engaging in art processes are on freeing the mind! However, whilst clients have found many of the processes therapeutic, they are not a substitute for therapy. Harriet is a trained life and mindfulness coach,
( and uses creative journaling in her 1-2-1 coaching) and art educator. If things come up in the therapy field, she is mindful to support within her expertise and to refer on where necessary. If you are would like more clarification if it is right for you, please email hello@creativepause.club before booking.
